As I Am
We say
Singer Ben Romans-Hopcraft and guitarist Leo Dobsen met at Nottingham University through a shared love of psychedelic music. The duo started making demos before later recruiting bassist Daniel Salamons and drummer Jonny Williams to form Childhood. There's been lots of love for the quartet in 2014 so far with Radio 1 plays and sessions from Huw Stephens and Phil & Alice, B-list spins at BBC 6Music and support from John Kennedy at Xfm. Production on this fabulous single and the forthcoming album Lacuna (due August 11) comes from Rodaidh McDonald (noted for his work with The xx, Savages and King Krule) along with Dan Carey (who's worked with Bat For Lashes). After supporting Temples and Interpol already this year, more UK festival dates are on the way at Reading & Leeds, Bestival and Festival Number 6 in Portmeirion. The band also play an album launch show in London at Hackney venue Oslo on August 13, before venturing on their own headline tour this October. There are so many gloriously retro influences in this track and it's so beautifully realised, it seems like you've known it forever. You'll wonder how something this lyrically bittersweet can still seem so damn welcoming every single time you press play.
