Handsome Savior
We say
Sivert Høyem is something of a Scandinavian legend. During the late 1990s he was a member of massive-selling rock band Madrugada and went on to score No.1 albums in his native Norway as well as picking up a bunch of Spellemann awards, their version of a Grammy. After a decade of success, during which time he also released a couple of huge solo albums, the group disbanded following the death of their guitarist Robert Burås so Sivert decided to fully continue on his own. Plaudits continued and many long-term fans regard his current work to be his finest yet. His latest album Endless Love was mixed at Berlin's legendary Hansa Studios by Michael Ilbert, famed for his production work for The Hives and The Cardigans and debuted at No.1 recently on the Norwegian album chart. This beautiful track is reflective of the album's tone, reminiscent of the great Chris Isaak in places - dramatic, soulful and almost spiritual at times. Sivert hits the UK for dates at Manchester's Sound Control on June 1 and at Hackney's Oslo venue the night after. Mature, uplifting and filled with hope and happiness, this is indeed a powerful musical gem.
