The Flow
We say
Moody, introspective and smokily atmospheric, this gorgeous track by Melanie De Biasio is like some other-worldly slice of jazz beamed to us from several decades ago, but sounding timeless and compelling too. The great Gilles Peterson was one of the early supporters of the album No Deal back in January. Since then it's gone Gold in her native Belgium as well as shifting over 20,000 copies in France. Now the likes of Huey Morgan and Cerys Matthews have been playing her music across their BBC radio shows and a live session and interview is lined up with Jamie Cullum at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival this weekend (May 3). There's now an almost breathless anticipation for her forthcoming UK headline live dates, the first of which will be as part of this year's James Lavelle-curated Meltdown Festival at the Purcell Room on London's Southbank on June 16. In the word of jazz, authenticity counts for everything. You can tell when someone is faking it. There's utterly no question whatsoever that Melanie De Biasio is the real deal. Quite simply, this is beautifully impressive.
