Give It Up
We say
Born and raised in West London, 20-year-old ALECS grew up listening to brilliant (but often overlooked) guitar bands like Badfinger and Jellyfish, absorbing their knack for melody, before then immersing himself in the world of alternative R&B from the likes of Frank Ocean and The Weeknd. We can hear both sets of influences in the production and writing style here, and it's a combination that truly works. Since the song first emerged online a few months back, a flurry of glowing blog reviews from The Line Of Best Fit, Alt Sounds and The Magic Critque all followed, along with sessions on SBTV, Balcony TV and Shout 4 Music, radio support from Gary Crowley at BBC London & BBC Introducing and 25,000 Soundcloud plays. After launching the EP at a club gig recently, there are more forthcoming dates in London at The Nest on March 8 and The Black Bull Sessions on April 3. There's also a rather raunchy short film showcasing all three cuts from The Fulham Tapes EP, directed by the ever so cool Lyncombe Collection. Dark, compelling but a very accessible sound too, ALECS is a name you genuinely need to watch over the coming months.
