Envy
We say
Possibly the only band more likely to win Nobel prizes than Brit awards, Breton take a lab-based, multi-disciplinary approach to music encompassing sound, visual art and film that we are hereby dubbing 'polymath-rock'. They have swapped their south London BretonLABS base - where last year's well-received Other People's Problems was incubated - for an abandoned broadcasting building in Berlin, emerging with another diverse and rewarding album in the shape of War Room Stories, out on February 3. We were seduced by the shadowy thrum of first single Got Well Soon, while today's featured track Envy is their most 'pop' track to date, even allowing for the presence on it of the 44-piece Macedonian Radio Symphonic Orchestra. Premiered by Noisey, radio support for Envy so far comes from 6Music's Mary Anne Hobbs and Xfm's John Kennedy among others. The band have just come back from supporting Local Natives and Foals in the UK and Europe, before heading off to Australia, America and Canada before Christmas. They will showcase songs from the new album at a low-key Lexington appearance tomorrow night (December 5).
