Sorry
We say
Like an apology extracted from a recalcitrant four year-old, the titular Sorry of this track by LA three piece The Moth & The Flame is screamed and belated, arriving towards the end of a song that, like the other five cuts on their debut UK EP '&', invites oxymoron. There's an orderly chaos here; complexities abound, but they're made satisfyingly accessible by melody, like a difficult subject made intelligible by a charismatic professor. No doubt that's due in part to producer Joey Waronker, whose previous credits - Beck, REM, Atoms For Peace - are all popular experimentalists as well (or experimental populists perhaps). The Moth & The Flame's second album, the follow-up to their US-only eponymous debut of two years ago, is produced by Peter Katis (Interpol, The National) and due out in the UK next year. The band are currently on a European tour with Imagine Dragons, with three London shows in the next fortnight (see below) and another huge, as-yet-unannounced support to come.
London gigs: Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen, November 20 / Sebright Arms, November 26 / O2 Brixton Academy, November 27 (with Imagine Dragons)
