Better In The Dark
We say
Inclusion in a bands-to-watch list is one thing, but making a 100 Cultural Things You Should Know list - and being only the second musical entry behind Atoms For Peace - is something else entirely. But 21 year-old Swedish/Australian twin sisters Miranda and Elektra Kilbey - aka Say Lou Lou - are that sort of band. Influenced by music, fashion and art, they direct their own videos and release music on their own label - until the majors came knocking. We first fell for Say Lou Lou's Bat For Lashes-esque atmospherica earlier this year, when the late-night airport melancholy of Julian was firing up the blogs off the back of last year's sultry Maybe You. Radio support is as international as they are, ranging from Radio 1, Xfm, 6Music and Amazing Radio in the UK to KCRW and Triple J. New single Better In The Dark is perfect winter pop, featured here for its silky production and soaring chorus rather than any sinister fixation on our part with sibling duos who prefer it in the dark. Say Lou Lou have just come off tour with Foals; you can catch their debut headline show at London's Concrete tonight.
