Wild Love
We say
If there's anything bubblegum about alt-pop Aussie songstress Gossling, it's more Bazooka Joe than Bubblicious. The Guardian's Paul Lester describes her distinctive voice as 'equal parts squeak and sorrow', which is about as perfect a rendering as you will find. On Wild Love, her debut release in the UK, Gossling's quirky tones and strong ear for melody are set against some dusky, Apache-esque guitar lines that make for an intriguing and eminently synch-able pop song. Accordingly it has earned her placements on Offspring and Gossip Girl in the US, as well as entering Triple J's Top 20 Most Played of last year. Elsewhere on her debut album Harvest of Gold, released this week in Australia, Gossling brings a touch of Ellie Goulding to proceedings (possibly explaining the rumoured A&R interest in next year's UK release). Her star certainly seems to be rising in the northern hemisphere; Gossling was in town for two industry-heavy London shows last month, ahead of some much-hyped CMJ appearances in New York.
