My Yout
We say
Azealia Banks, Angel Haze, A$AP Rocky. You barely need venture beyond the letter A for proof of New York's undisputed crown as home to hip-hop's most innovative new talent. Moving things along lyrically, musically and alphabetically is 18 year-old Brooklyn rapper Joey Bada$$, who has built a solid reputation across two highly acclaimed mixtapes - last year's 1999, hailed by many as the best of the year, and Summer Knights, which now receives an official release via Relentless in the UK. My Yout is one of two new tracks on the EP (remixed with a new vocal from east London's Maverick Sabre), premiered as a Hottest Record last week by Zane Lowe and quickly followed by spins from Fearne Cotton, MistaJam, Annie Mac and more. His recent Converse show at the 100 Club saw crowds spilling onto Oxford Street, while his 30-date Smokers Club tour of the US is similarly oversubscribed. The Telegraph confidently stated last week that his 2014 debut album could make Joey Bada$$ our next hip-hop megastar, and we're inclined to agree.
