The Curse
We say
The Curse is the sublime new single from Copenhagen-born singer-songwriter and RotD favourite Agnes Obel, the first to be taken from her second album Aventine, out September 30 on Play It Again Sam. Selling 450k units across Europe, debut longplayer Philharmonics - made in Obel's Berlin bedroom - saw the classically trained pianist rise to platinum status in France and Belgium, gold in the Netherlands, and five times platinum in her native Denmark, where she picked up five Danish Music Awards. No less intimate and beguiling for being recorded at Chalk Wood Studios, Aventine was written, arranged and produced by Agnes, whose wistful vocals draw you in like a whisper. Expect hushed reverence for her forthcoming iTunes Festival appearance supporting Ludovico Einaudi in September, doubly so when she returns to the UK in October as part of her own European tour.
London gigs: iTunes Festival, Roundhouse, September 17 / Union Chapel, October 21
