The War
We say
We fell for 25 year-old Brixton singer-songwriter Josh Record's debut Bones EP - in particular sublime lead track For Your Love - in a big way back in March, as did everyone from Zane Lowe to Steve Lamacq to the Guardian and the Sunday Times, who compared his keening falsetto to Bon Iver's Justin Vernon. Follow-up EP The War is another strong collection of fragile songs - spacious, naked and vulnerable. Zane premiered lead track The War as a Hottest Record, followed by Sara Cox and Huw Stephens at Radio 1, while a synth-laden, ethereal remix by Tom Vek has been picked up by Xfm's John Kennedy among others. Following a much-praised Glastonbury performance and a special guest support to Rodriguez in Amsterdam, Record has a slew of club and festival dates in July and August; hopefully we won't have to wait too long after that for a debut longplayer to really lose ourselves in.
