Firewurx
We say
The term 'indie rap' gets bandied about these days, but rhyming 'Hoxton' with 'Graham Coxon' on last year's RotD-featured Thunderbird definitely earns US producer, rapper and multi-instrumentalist Thunderbird Gerard his indie stripes, along with press acclaim and a well deserved Zane Lowe 'Next Hype'. Dubbed the 'Kerouac of new hip-hop' on account of his nomadic lifestyle, Gerard's music chronicles his journey from smalltown America via London to his current hometown of Berlin. Aided by rising UK production talent FTSE, he now teams up with fellow transplanted American and RotD favourite Kenzie May on Firewurx, a soulful synthesis of gritty beats and silky vocals the match of Nas and Lauryn Hill's If I Ruled The World. From Noisey to i-D the music and style press have heaped praise on both Gerard and May; this classy collaboration will no doubt be a platform for each to create fireworks of their own.
