King and Cross
We say
Already a sensation in Iceland, where a staggering one in ten people own his debut album Dyrd í dauðathogn, 21 year-old Ásgeir is the country’s fastest-selling domestic artist. Luckily for us, the album will now be released worldwide as In The Silence on October 28, with lyrics translated by The Czars' John Grant. Strains of Bon Iver and Thomas Dybdahl are in evidence on airy debut King and Cross, a deft combination of pastoral beats, electronic and organic instrumentation that received a first Radio 1 play from Zane Lowe earlier this month, with further spins from Phil Taggart & Alice Levine and Xfm's Jo Good. Ásgeir has just completed a European tour with Of Monsters & Men, including a stunning performance at Somerset House on Tuesday, with European festival appearances to come over the summer and more UK dates planned for September & October. Ásgeir's is gentle, immersive yet uplifting music that deserves acclaim far beyond the shores of Iceland.
