Coast To Coast
We say
Released this week in the UK, Cerulean Salt is the second album from Alabama-born Brooklynite Katie Crutchfield, aka Waxahatchee. Less 'straight from the heart' than self-administered open-heart surgery, Crutchfield's confessional songwriting is painfully honest yet oddly palliative. Accordingly Cerulean Salt has the serious music press universally delirious with praise, from an 8.4 Pitchfork review to a four-page feature in this weekend's Guardian Guide. Standout track Coast To Coast, a former Zane Lowe Next Hype that proves Crutchfield does catchy just as well as she does confessional, is near-perfect grunge-pop but for being about two minutes too short. Plays have poured in from Amazing Radio to Xfm and Radio 1, with John Kennedy and Huw Stephens sessions running around album release. Currently supporting the woefully overlooked Tegan & Sara in Europe, Waxahatchee tours the UK in October. Expect enchantment.
