It's a month of firsts for the Billboard Hot 100 as Jay Sean's Down ends Black Eyed Peas' 26-week record run at the top of the singles charts. In doing so he becomes the first British urban artist to have a US No 1 and only the fourth British artist to have a US No 1 this decade. The hard work, development and smart management throughout his career so far is paying off in spectacular fashion. Jayded Records, an independent label founded by Jay and his management 2Point9, had a top 10 album (with help from Absolute Marketing & Distribution) in the UK in 2008 which came to the attention of Cash Money who then signed him. As he readies release of his US debut album All Or Nothing, Down is playlisted on BBC 1Xtra, Radio 1, Choice, Capital, BBC Asian Network and Kiss. JF
