We first featured this months ago - it was one of the buzz tracks at last year's Midem. Despina was signed by Mach 1 (a Ministry Germany JV with a really good, broad-minded A&R policy), then Positiva picked her up for the UK. Gia is the latest in the line of smash ethnic/pop crossovers (Kiss Kiss, the Turkish Eurovision winner, Panjabi MC etc). The original version of this track was released last year in Greek and went five times platinum (more than 200,000 units in a country of eight million people), then the DJ Gregory mix (which Pete Tong has championed) later went to #1 as well. Gia was also #1 in Turkey and across the Middle East.
