beast

We say
Back in January, we featured the intoxicating disco-tinged dance pop single ‘rush of love’ by London/Barcelona-based alt-pop songwriter Lala Hayden. On Friday, the former Anteros frontwoman dropped her second solo EP ‘viva venus’. Produced by Ben Christophers (Bat For Lashes, Françoise Hardy), the EP explores love in a digital age, set against a glistening synth-pop backdrop. With subtle nods to the vibrant energy of Robyn and Róisín Murphy to the sophisticated pop sensibilities of Ladyhawke, Self Esteem, Donna Summer, Jessie Ware, and Lykke Li, the EP is a glorious affair. Closing out the EP is ‘Beast’ - a cathartic yet vulnerable offering wrapped up in layers of euphoric pop that’s perfect for additions to new pop and synth-pop playlists. Tastemaker praise has come from NME, Dork, DIY, The Line of Best Fit, and Ones To Watch. Next month, Lala will be supporting RotD-favourite Catty at Colours in Hoxton on 22 May.
