Dreamcatchers

YOVA

self-release

WE SAY

Upon hitting play for the very first time, we were instantly drawn to this disparate and dream-like single from experimental pop duo Yova. Formed after a chance encounter between Macedonian-born Jova Radevska and London-based multi-instrumentalist Mark Vernon, the duo released their debut album ‘Nine Lives’ in late 2021 to praise from the likes of Mojo, Louder Than War and Electronic Sound. Now working on their follow-up LP, ‘Dreamcatchers’ is the title track with this version the first in a series of three unique interpretations of the single. Focused around a revolving (and evolving) chord pattern on an acoustic guitar, the track builds around the beguiling vocals of Jova. Featuring cello from Kate Moore, percussion from Alex Thomas (John Cale/Anna Calvi) and James Sedwards (Thurston Moore) on electric guitar, the track is a beautiful, ethereal earworm deserving of alternative editorial playlist support at DSPs and spins at Radio 2 and 6 Music. If you are free on 25 October, the duo will be performing at the Troubadour in London.
