Lairs
WULF
WE SAY
London-based three-piece WULF offer us a gloriously uplifting take on 2015 indie rock. There’s soul and emotion in there, with hard-crunching piano much more evident in their sound rather than the searing electric guitars that figure highly amongst their peers right now. It helps give them a much more earthy and organic, even acoustic vibe and therefore feels more authentic and less laboured than many of the current hype bands lumped in the same genre. Lairs is the opening track from their debut four-song EP of the same name which also includes Fire, their debut single that was Zane Lowe’s ‘Next Hype’. Across both songs to date, support has come from Radio 1, 6 Music, XFM and Amazing Radio, from online tastemaker blogs Earmilk, Indie Shuffle, Clash and Hunger magazine and the band has also played an acoustic session for Burberry. Another big fan of the lads is Huw Stephens and you can catch them live as part of his regular London showcase night at The Social on March 10. Passionate and with a finely-tuned ear for a perfectly crafted song, this trio is an exciting prospect.
