Willow Robinson
WE SAY
It’s the rock n’ roll dream to be signed at your very first solo gig. Willow Robinson is living proof of that fairytale scenario coming true. What’s more, it was legendary Creation Records mastermind Alan McGee who discovered him. The son of film director and author Bruce Robinson (yes, the bloke that brought us the cult classic Withnail & I among others) and artist Sophie Windham, Willow was encouraged by his friends and parent’s social circle to pursue his love of music and the arts, and it’s led him in recent months to perform with acts including the Jesus & Mary Chain, Charlie Simpson and Killing Joke. This track is a remarkable introduction to his music. Production comes from the brilliant Youth, who gives the sound here the same kind of sonic atmosphere and emotion that he brought to The Verve’s finest recordings back in the day. You can soon catch Willow live in London supporting Cast at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire on December 4. Full of drama, emotion, passion and fervour, it’s not hard to spot what McGee also saw in him right from the start. This is a truly exciting discovery.
