William The Conqueror

Loose

WE SAY

We were fortunate enough to catch William The Conqueror at a Friday afternoon show in Brighton as part of The Great Escape, and although It was very early days for the band, we could already hear the trio had a bag of great songs in their arsenal. Led by Cornishman Ruarri Joseph, this track is an excellent starting point to introduce you to their debut album Proud Disturber Of The Peace, which is released this week through Loose, the alt-country/Americana label that launched Sturgill Simpson. Recorded off the radar in Joseph’s garage, it’s already won plaudits from Q magazine, Metro, The 405 and Clash, who premiered this single. Musically, a combination of lo-fi slacker rock and folk is evident throughout. Lyrically it’s something of a confessional song that’s designed as a warning to Ruarri’s kids not to do what he did during his misspent youth and beyond. Tonight (August 2) we urge you get along to their album launch party at The Social in London and catch the buzz around the band ahead of a headline show at The Moth Club on November 14. Their prospects look incredibly strong indeed.
