We-Are-Z

Sputnik Records

WE SAY

Our love for We Are Z grows with every release and this latest slice of jerky funk-driven electro pop is unquestionably their best yet. Twice we’ve featured them over the past few months - last time around was with our first Record of the Day for 2015, the splendid Knucklehead. The darker tone of that debut single is replaced here musically by an out-and-out trip to party central but with contrasting lyrics that talk of paranoia and vulnerability. The five lads in the group are all accomplished musicians, having worked with a diverse selection of premier acts including Beyonce, James Morrison and The Waterboys. There's a live London date at Tooting Tram & Social on April 24 (along with Island Cassettes) before the band then start their UK tour on May 20. Astute, intelligent and canny, somewhat like their peers such as Everything Everything, these chaps remain one of the coolest new prospects for the rest of the year ahead.
