We Are Z

Sputnik Records

WE SAY

We’re very fond of this rather splendid debut single from We Are Z. Opening up with a great driving bass riff, then diving head first into a tight and urgent groove reminiscent of acts like Franz Ferdinand, early Maximo Park and Vampire Weekend, it’s a cool three minute power pop statement, stuffed full of tasty hooks and with a superb earworm of a chorus. Lyrically the tune tells of society’s obsession with cosmetic surgery and how, once people start getting more and more insecure about it all, they crave unhealthy extreme solutions, all of which will ultimately lead to a destructive conclusion. With a debut album coming in the summer of 2015, the west London-based trio have been road-testing songs for the past six months via low-key live gigs and next up, they launch this single at Tooting Tram & Social’s Friday club night on November 28. Prepare to party.
