Blame Myself
Vince Freeman
WE SAY
Released yesterday (24 January), ‘Blame Myself’ is the anthemic soul stomper from London-based artist Vince Freeman. It’s taken from his forthcoming debut album, ‘Scars, Ghosts & Glory’, and is an ode to unapologetically owning the choices we make in life. Having first started as a regular performer at west London club, Ginglik, and later, as a promoter of Shush, where he gave early opportunities to Ed Sheeran, Paolo Nutini and Rag’n’Bone Man, Vince then reached the semi-final of The Voice in 2012. After that, he went on to receive a platinum record for his feature on Lost Frequencies’ ‘Sun Is Shining’ and co-wrote/featured on Fedde Le Grand’s track ‘Devils’ whilst continuing to perform on stage. He then quit music, but a chance meeting with a music lawyer at a festival after the pandemic where he was running a mobile coffee stall resulted in a series of events that saw him raise funds to record and release his debut album. Wonderland, Spindle, Clash and Scott Mills at Radio 2 are already admirers after praising his first two singles, and we reckon with ‘Blame Myself’ more tastemakers should follow suit. Plus, it would be perfect for spins at Radio 1 and 2, alongside additions to soul playlists at DSPs. Watch the video here. In April, Vince will be heading out on a UK tour and is set to play the Camden Club in London on 16 April.
