Following last year’s brilliantly brooding electro debut and RotD-featured Secrets, Manchester alt-pop duo Tonica is back with this 80s-inspired injection of pop-facing electronica. Written to reflect the duo’s frustrations during the pandemic and co-produced by Jack Wilson of Fickle Friends, the Jeremy Wheatley mixed Perfect Lie is a refreshing, nostalgic nod to the highs of Duran Duran, Soft Cell and Depeche Mode, all wrapped up in the modern pop sensibilities of PVRIS and The Weeknd. With its vibrant chorus of clean guitars, humming synthwave and vocals, the track has picked up support from BBC Radio 1 Introducing, BBC Introducing in Manchester, Amazing Radio, Pop Passion, Popmuzik and a host of other online blogs. The duo are planning a series of livestream events for later this year, ahead of debuting live this winter, but in the meantime, just enjoy this hook-laden gem.
