Face in the Crowd
Tom Webber
WE SAY
Face In The Crowd is the brilliant new release from 22 year old singer songwriter Tom Webber. We first featured him in June last year when his rich, soulful voice caught our attention in the heartfelt and personal ode I’m Yours. It was a song that drew on the folk-led guitar sounds of Dylan, the sing-a-long nature of the Beatles and a ’50s rock’n’roll sensibility, all of which were great influences on him after years spending time with his grandfather and father listening to music. His debut EP, Stop and Think About It, with its beautiful four tracks of Sam Cooke-infused luminance earned him the title of Best Demo of the Year at 2022’s Glastonbury Festival. Last year also saw the young artist continue to build on tastemaker support with further praise from BBC Introducing and Gary Crowley on BBC Radio London, alongside supporting Nick Lowe, Richard Hawley and Deacon Blue, plus appearances at Isle of Wight Festival, Glastonbury, Henley Festival, Cornbury, Readipop, Womad, Truck Festival, The Big Feastival and Bunkfest. Written about his hometown, Face In The Crowd once again delivers another appealingly retro, yet modern tune that is sure to delight young and old listeners alike. Tom is also involved in a forthcoming project entitled The Unexpected Return of Mr Meek – the story of the first “bedroom producer” in the early ’60s who stored unreleased backing tracks in tea chests – where Tom has lent his vocals and written some lyrics to the tracks. Watch the trailer here. If you fancy catching him in person performing live, he’ll be playing The Green Note in Camden next Tuesday (7 March).
