Tom Hickox
WE SAY
Three years on from his debut, Tom Hickox released his second album Monsters In the Deep in the spring and was instantly greeted with much acclaim from the likes of MOJO, The Sunday Times, Uncut and Louder Than War. The first thing you’ll notice are his unique, rich, earthy tones on this hugely likeable song with its singalong chorus packed full of charm and hooks. Lyrically it’s upbeat and laden with idealism as he sings to his companion and urges them to come and start a new life with him. John Kennedy at Radio X (where he’ll appear in session this week), Chris Hawkins and Janice Long are all fans of Tom’s work. As well as supporting both Juilan Cope and Martha Wainwright earlier in the year, his recent headline London shows at Oslo and The Lexington were both sold out. On August 18, he’ll be performing at the Green Man festival before launching headlong into more live dates during September and October, with a new soon-to-be-announced London gig on the cards too. As his reputation as a songwriter continues to grow, this song’s destined to become a bit of an anthem.
