Four-piece Australian band The Jezabels are about to release their third album Synthia and from it comes this melodic synth-driven rocker that builds and builds towards a full-on storming pop chorus. They’re past winners of Australia’s ARIA music prize for Best Independent Music Release, and multiple recipients of the AIR Award too. Fronted by the wonderful-named Hayley Mary, her vocals at times here remind us of Shirley Manson from Garbage and, just like hers, manage to beautifully showcase darkness and drama before soaring to great heights to deliver a series of gloriously thrilling killer hooks. Female empowerment is something the band promote strongly throughout their work. Full of control, desire and lusting, we love the dance-edged gothic feel on this track. Sadly, we won’t be seeing the band live in London soon (as originally planned) as all engagements have been cancelled due to keyboard player Heather Shannon’s current and undergoing cancer treatment. We wish her and the band well and, in the meantime, encourage you to endulge in this pleasurable delight.
