Crazy Tings
Tems
WE SAY
Our last Ones To Watch 2022 for this week is the exciting, rising singer-songwriter and producer Tems. It’s been something of a whirlwind fifteen months for the Lagos, Nigeria-based artist after the release of her 2020 EP, For Broken Ears. Her fresh blend of alternative R&B, neo soul, reggae and more led to critical acclaim and being featured on Essence with Afrobeats star Wizkid and more recently, with Drake on Fountains from his Certified Lover Boy album. Now signed to Since '93, she dropped her If Orange Was A Place EP in September that included this sublime dose of breezy Afrofusion produced by GuiltyBeatz. Crazy Tings quickly made an impact at radio with support from Radio 1, 1Xtra (B-List), Rinse (A-List) and Kiss Fresh. While on the TV front, she performed the track live on Jimmy Kimmel in the US. Along the way, she has received tastemaker support from Notion, Guardian, the Line of Best Fit, i-D, The Face, Vogue and many more. With over 1bn combined streams worldwide for her music and as a featured artist, she has been heavily supported across DSPs. For us, it is Tems’ unique fusion of sounds, infectious groove and soulful vibe that has us very excited to see what’s next for this hugely talented artist. It’s not only us either, she has recently been nominated for the BBC Sound Of 2022 longlist and tipped by Amazon Music in its Artists To Watch 2022 list, but we reckon they won’t be the last lists or tips that she will be included on.
