Ted Zed

BMG

WE SAY

Continuing our look at a few noteworthy acts appearing at this year's Great Escape, Ted Zed is the alias of 19 year-old Somerset musician Edward Griggs. He's one of those talented teens who plays loads of instruments but also handles his own artwork, crafts his own videos, creates his own on-stage light show and built his own studio at the back of his house. After being discovered by top producer Dan Carey, he recently signed a deal with BMG and the groundwork is now being laid for his debut album due next year. Interest in this single from big names like Daft Punk, Avicii and Calvin Harris led to the video being added to their respective Vevo playlists. Steve Lamacq and Nemone at BBC 6Music have shown support so far, along with Huw Stephens, Annie Nightingale, Rob Da Bank at Radio 1 and Eddy Temple-Morris at Xfm. We hear Pink Floyd from the Dark Side Of The Moon era, blended in with bleeps and squelchy bits that could only come from 21st century dance music influences. It's often said that there's a very fine line between being declared bonkers and being hailed a genius. We quite like it when new talent stomps their way along that line, confusing people in the process. Right now, we'll be watching Ted tread with a great deal of interest when he plays an afternoon gig in Brighton this Friday (May 9) at the Spiegelpub stage.
