We Are Not Friends (ft. SOMAOTA)

TAMIW

Niwer Records

WE SAY

Released yesterday (16 April), ‘We Are Not Friends’ is the genre-bending new single from Osaka’s leftfield/alternative group TAMIW. Featuring guest vocals from Tokyo-based MC Somaota of Black petrol, the track fuses raw emotional weight with cerebral lyricism, set against a backdrop of guitar-driven electronic hip-hop. Taken from their forthcoming fourth album ‘Farewell Party’, the track follows previous single ‘A.H.O’, which received airplay on 6 Music’s New Music Fix Daily. There is a lot to love about the blend of ambient-pop sensibilities, the MGMT-style synth flourishes, and hip-hop leaning rhythms on ‘We Are Not Friends’ that deserves your attention. Perfect for spins on specialist shows at Radio 1 and 6 Music, the track would also sound great on those leftfield alternative playlists at DSPs too. Next up, the band will celebrate the release of their new album with a short run of shows in Japan. A UK tour is also in the works for later this year.
