Our last Ones To Watch 2022 for this week is the rising R&B star Tamera. The Gravesend-born artist first came to our attention when she broke onto the scene with the breezy hit Flipside in 2020. The track quickly gained the attention of Annie Mac, who dubbed her a “New Name”, along with playlist support at 1 Xtra, and praise from the likes of Hunger, Dummy, Paper, GRM Daily, gal-dem, Complex and many more. 2021 saw her continue to build support at tastemakers and DSP’s (Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon & Deezer) with each new release and culminated in the release of her P2J (Wizkid, Beyonce, Snoh Aalegra) debut five-track EP Afrodite last month. It’s an intimate and emotive exploration of love, life and her heritage that’s beautifully imagined and filled with feminine energy and lush vocals amidst a gorgeous blend of West African and R&B influences. Her soulful tone, natural songwriting ability and blend of styles, for us, makes her a rising star in the genre and one of our Ones To Watch 2022. It’s not just us who has tipped her either, Amazon Music made her one of its Ones To Watch this time last year, and YouTube recognised her in its #YouTubeBlack Voices Artist Class of 2022 too.
