WE SAY
With its dreamy, warm grooves, smooth tempo and serotonin-inducing vibes, It’s Alright is the new feel-good single from Galway-based rapper Sweetlemondae. Born in Johannesburg and raised in Dublin, the 23 year old artist started to take her rapping seriously during the pandemic, having first started creating and uploading her own music to Soundcloud when she was 15. Her uploads to YouTube caught the attention of Irish label Diffusion, which released Never Gonna Be last year and her Jafaris collab, Higher State, in January. Influenced by Coi Leray, Little Simz and IAMDDB, Sweetlemondae’s music has already caught the attention of Irish tastemakers with the likes Hot Press, GoldenPlec, BBC Ulster and RTE 2FM singing her praises. Featuring on new release playlists at Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music and Deezer upon release last week, It’s Alright has been named as RTE 2FM’s ‘Track of the Week’ and deserves spins on 1Xtra, Radio 1, Capital Xtra and more. Having supported Caity Baser on her Irish dates, Sweetlemondae will perform at Body & Soul and Live on Harbour festivals this summer. From this gem, we reckon the Irish rap scene has another future star on its hands.
