Weekend
SuperGlu
WE SAY
Essex-based four-piece SuperGlu formed two summers ago and manage to combine, then update, all the best bits from some of our favourite '90s guitar bands into one fantastic three-minute energy blast with this single. It’s the second release from recent EP Horse and follows up the well-received track Diving Bell, which was picked up by Huw Stephens at Radio 1 and DIY magazine among others. Their first live show was at Latitude last year and since then a bunch of key tastemaker blogs have been sitting up and taking notice, thanks to their neat blend of influences, taking in The Pixies, Supergrass, Blur and Elastica to name but a few. From the opening riff here, it’s evident that they’ve got an ear for a solid melody, addictive harmonies and tight musicianship. The whole thing powers along and leaves a warm glow that reminds us why we got into indie music in the first place as teens. Catch their live show this Wednesday night (June 8) at The Monarch in north London before they return to Latitude again this summer on July 17. Like us, you may end up playing this on a loop.
