Falling Stars
Sunset Strippers
WE SAY
Here we go again with multiple, simultaneous cover versions of a golden oldie. This is no bad thing - it gets people talking, motivates the record labels involved, and suggests the hit is ripe for revival. This time it's Waiting For A Star To Fall by Boy Meets Girl, and either this version or the Cabin Crew version will be a huge hit - or perhaps both will (they're scheduled for the same day). Sunset Strippers have a head start at Radio 1 and a claim on being first (which is probably irrelevant even if true - there isn't much room for morals in a war of the cover versions!). SonyBMG own the original Boy Meets Girl record so naturally that's cleared for this version, whereas Cabin Crew are using a replay. But Cabin Crew have a few advantages of their own (watch this space). May the best record win!
