Tired Boy
Sunday (1994)
WE SAY
Starting our new week of Ones To Watch 2025 is rapidly rising indie newcomers Sunday (1994). They first came to attention earlier this year when they released the gorgeous single ‘Stained Glass Window’. It was their second single release, following this magnificent debut, and quickly drew us into their wistful, cinematic brand of indie that invoked the bittersweet nostalgia of ’90s romantic cinema and the sounds of Mazzy Star, The Cure and The Sundays. Formed around the writing duo and band members Paige Turner from California and Lee Newell from Slough (UK) and joined by drummer ‘Puma’, Sunday (1994) released their self-titled debut EP to critical acclaim in May. Shortly after, they were signed to RCA UK/Arista and released a deluxe edition of the EP in September, expanding the tracklist to nine songs from the original six. Along the way, the transatlantic trio have drawn tastemaker praise from The Sunday Times, Dork, The Line of Best Fit, DIY Mag, Notion, Wonderland and ourselves, among others. Garnered radio support from BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6, Travis Mills’ Apple Music Show and NME Radio, as well as editorial playlist features on Spotify and Apple Music. Having made their live debut at Los Angeles’ The Echo in September followed by a sold-out shows at London’s Camden Assembly and New York's Mercury Lounge, the band are currently supporting Girl In Red in the US, amidst a string of solo shows stateside this week. We love the charming, cinematic blend of Sunday (1994)’s wistful indie soundscapes and romanticism, alongside confessional tongue-in-cheek lyricism, and believe there is much more to come from them in 2025. Expect them back in the UK early next year for more shows.
