WE SAY
Based in South London, Stuart James says he "combines the rhythms and lyrical flows of east coast MCs and west coast beat poets over punky acoustic guitar". It's certainly an original and striking sound. One of his demos got played on Rob Da Bank's unsigned show on Radio 1 back in March, the same night as his fourth gig. He has since been played on both XFM and London art station Resonance FM (there aren't many acts who are suitable for both, if you think about it). He reminds us somewhat of Billy Bragg, but at the same time there's a lot to admire about his fresh, uncompromising style. An arresting live act, catch him on Monday night at In The City.
