Albin Skeppholm and Simon Werner are rising Swedish indie-rock duo Slide who last Friday (8 March) released their debut EP, Into Happiness. Having met at school, the duo initially didn’t hit it off but after meeting and bonding at unhappy moments in their lives, they channelled those struggles to create the life-affirming rock music of their five track EP. Musically, their sound is a blend of the inventiveness of Red Hot Chili Peppers, the languishing guitar tones of Nirvana and the anthemic chorus nature of Oasis, and this absolute gem has a touch of the Pixies too. Tastemaker support has come from the likes of Clash, NME, All Things Go, The Most Radicalist, Born Music, and When The Horn Blows among others. Their second single, Floating, garnered radio airplay stateside (including KROQ & KNDD), as well as in Germany, Austria, France and Sweden, which resulted in the band charting on the European Talent Chart. Gloriously nostalgic, yet with a modern escapism vibe about them, Slide offer a fresh take on the genre and one, we are rather enjoying. A laid back and addictive post-grunge burner.
