Deadbolt

SKATERS

Warner Bros. Records

WE SAY

Being something of a melting-pot outfit themselves, comprising former members of Brit-rockers The Paddingtons and Boston-via-Portland's the Dead Trees, SKATERS' choice of title for their debut album Manhattan seems entirely fitting. (More so perhaps than their own name, since none of them actually skate.) Their immigrant sound is quintessentially New York, a blend of Ramones-esque late seventies punk and new wave that earned them indie press and then a major label deal off the back of their DIY debut EP Schemers last year. Produced by John Hill (Santigold, Wavves) and scheduled for release on February 24, Manhattan is a kind of Portrait of the Artist as New York Bartender, sketched from the drinking holes that earned them their early living in the city. Deadbolt, out this week, has earned fans in Radio 1's Huw Stephens, Zane Lowe and Phil & Alice, who will host them on November 6 for a Live Lounge Late. The band arrive in the UK this week to join Deap Vally on their October and November tour.

London gig: Electric Ballroom, November 14
