Drawing on the sound of ’80s bands like Simple Minds, Tears For Fears and The Call and a smattering of ’90s Seattle music, ‘Dark Matter’ is the new release from Derry-based artist Sister Ghost, aka Shannon Delores O’Neill. Having built a reputation as one of Northern Ireland's most rousing new rock bands, winning Best Live Act at the NI Music Prize in 2019, before the pandemic, Sister Ghost took time out to write the majority of her forthcoming debut album, ‘Beyond The Water’, over lockdown and recorded it with Brad Wood (Liz Phair & Veruca Salt) in LA in 2022. Since then, her music, to date, has drawn praise from The Guardian, Radio 1 (Jack Saunders, Gemma Bradley), 6 Music and KEXP. With its nostalgic guitar hooks and lush, empowering vocals, ‘Dark Matter’ is an absolute joy and deserves additions to alternative and rock playlists. One to watch.
