Sheppard
WE SAY
With the potential to be one of 2014's biggest global hits too, this track by Sheppard went platinum in less than five weeks in Australia and has dominated radio over there through spring and summer, knocking Pharrell's monster tune Happy from the top of the singles chart. One listen and it's easy to hear why. Emma, George and Amy Sheppard grew up in Papua New Guinea but are now based in Brisbane along with the three other band members. In March, after releasing their music independently for a couple of years, they became the first Aussie act to sign to Decca and now Universal boss Lucian Grainge has declared that the company across the world should get behind the band and this track in particular. Streaming plays in the UK are already close to 150,000, even before the track was serviced to radio, UK TV music channels are now jumping on board with the video too and the buzz in the press continues to build nicely. Ed Sheeran declared himself a fan of the song on Twitter recently and now Scooter Braun is jointly-managing them Stateside. Hook-laden, addictive and infused with a charming feel-good factor, it's a simple vibrant song that sounds big and bold enough to translate into a worldwide multi-format radio and sales smash, we reckon.
