Young Blood
Saint Raymond
WE SAY
More than one watcher in Ones-to-Watch season has noted the dizzying plenitude of male singer-songwriters jostling for a share of ear in 2014. One name that stands out from the pack is 18 year-old Callum Burrows, aka Saint Raymond, whose one-man indie aesthetic makes him a more compelling proposition than some. That's no substitute for songs of course, and to judge from what we've heard there's no shortage of those either. His self-released debut EP Escapade impressed us in May and went on to sell 6k copies with the help of an iTunes Single of the Week and a BBC Introducing playlist addition at Radio 1; new EP Young Blood is another strong set, its lead track making the longlist for Zane Lowe's Hottest Record of 2013; and the handful of songs we've heard from his forthcoming debut album suggest plenty more of quality to come. Currently on tour with Haim, Saint Raymond has just announced his biggest headline tour to date, kicking off in March.
