The Original
Roo Panes
WE SAY
Singer-songwriter Roo Panes is about to release his second album Paperweights in February 2016 and this sublime acoustic track is the lead single from it. His debut album Little Giant was critically-acclaimed last year with noteworthy reviews from Q and Uncut magazine, and the follow-up has again been produced with Rupert Coulson, who’s best known for his impressive movie soundtrack work. It’s a collaboration that works well, bringing such an exquisite, stripped-back but deeply atmospheric tone to his music and performance. Earlier this year, the Dorset-based musician picked up a PRS Foundation Momentum Deezer Award (joining the likes of Bear’s Dean and JAWS), has notched up more than 20 million plays to date on Spotify, and will announce a new UK tour in the coming weeks. This song has been played and supported by Phil Taggart at Radio 1 and Lauren Laverne at 6 Music. Personal, honest, heartbreaking songs and a voice that’s never anything less than purely 100% authentic, Britfolk is in safe hands with a talent like this.
