Continuing our Ones To Watch 2023 is Indian-born, London-based singer, songwriter and producer Rahul Prasad, aka Renao. Having eschewed a career as an Olympic badminton hopeful to create art, Reano went on to study music at university in Leeds and started to share demos and ideas on his Instagram, Soundcloud and TikTok. Inspired by American youth and pop culture, Renao produces hazy guitar-led R&B influenced pop. We highlighted him ahead of his performance at this year’s Great Escape festival and featured his breakout hit Nobody, which launched with over 18k Spotify pre-saves after a viral teaser campaign on TikTok and has now amassed over 10m streams. Championed by Jack Saunders on Radio 1, Renao released his debut EP, From The South, earlier this year with this breezy gem as its centrepiece. Further tastemaker support has come from the Line of Best Fit, Notion, House of Solo, Wonderland, BBC Introducing, Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music. Next year will see him release his follow-up project - a multifaceted reflection on his own identity and journey as an artist, all through a lens of alternative pop and R&B. With his laidback alt-pop sound and easy-going vibe, we reckon Renao is heading for bigger things in 2023.
