Salford lass Ren Harvieu recently released her acclaimed album Revel In The Drama to glowing reviews from almost every broadsheet and leading music publication. It’s a body of work that really seems to resonate with many people right now. And lately, it’s been a delight to have the time to fully wallow in it, with this featured track being one of the standouts. Just as the world went into unexpected lockdown, Ren re-emerged from a seven year hiatus but immediately found her music welcomed by key tastemakers at radio including Jo Whiley and Lauren Laverne. That enforced break came after suffering (and ultimately overcoming) a life-threatening spinal injury, but it’s helped shaped the tone of the album, with lyrics outlining her struggles with self-belief, survival, liberation, desire and seduction. That honesty and truthfulness is what makes this such a compelling song with a real organic, natural feel to the sound. The album was co-produced by Romeo Stodart of the Magic Numbers, and together they’ve created a stylish collection of songs that you’ll want to return to time and time again. Try this track for starters, and don’t be surprised if you end up being hooked, then keen to hear more.
