Get Happy
Rebecca Ferguson
WE SAY
We’re always struck by how totally unique the voice of Rebecca Ferguson is. Jazz and swing seem a natural home for those husky and soulful tones and her contemporary take on tracks from the seminal Billie Holiday album Lady Sings The Blues shows talent, class and vibrancy in her delivery. She's currently having glowing praise heaped upon her from the press for the live performance series at London’s St James Theatre which runs until Saturday night (February 21) and returns for three more shows on March 19-21. This track and the entire album was recorded at the iconic Capitol Studios in L.A. with production from the great Troy Miller, noted for his past work with Amy Winehouse, Rumer and Laura Mvula. If you heard her mesmerising performance last week as part of Radio 2’s Billie Holiday tribute or saw her on BBC TV’s The One Show, you’ll know how she makes it all sound effortless. In the centennial year of Holiday’s birth, we reckon she’d be proud to hear her songs being cherished again by a new set of fans and lovingly interpreted as well as they are here.
