WE SAY
Raphaella is a mega talented singer, producer and songwriter from north London who already has a CV most musicians would die for. She's a classically trained graduate who has scored music for BBC Radio 4, but whose work has found favour at Radio 1 and 1Xtra too, with her artist songs and guest features premiered by leading tastemakers including Annie Mac, Pete Tong, Danny Howard, Mistajam and DJ Target. Her collaborations include Gorgon City and MNEK, Rudimental, Wilkinson, Armin van Buuren and many more. Turn Around is her first solo release of the year and it’s co-written and co-produced by Brendan Grieve, Sam Smith’s bassist. Lyrically, it tells the story of walking away from a relationship that you know in your head is no good, whilst sensing that your heart could pull you back any minute. You’ll hear some beautiful vibes and textures in there, partly drawn from her mixed heritage. Blending traditional Persian musical instruments with uber-modern stripped-back synth sounds and that powerful vocal, Raphaella's created something special and very memorable indeed.
