WE SAY
Rachel K Collier is a name that may already be familiar to you. This talented Welsh artist and producer featured on Ray Foxx’s summer 2013 Top 20 hit Boom Boom (Heartbeat) and has since gone on to create some excellent music in her own right, beginning last autumn with the self-produced EP Words You Never Heard. Now comes the first release in a series over the next few months, and it shows a clear sense of purpose and control, as she establishes herself as a serious performer and electro-pop producer. Tribal beats, wonky synth basslines, vocal loops and and a lyric reflecting on realisation and acceptance in a relationship all combine to deliver a sparkling gem of a track. Her distribution deal through Kobalt/AWAL means she’s able to release songs through her own label and to her own timescale, and Rachel wants to help more female producers along the way. She plays Bestival next weekend and London live dates are on the way. Summer ain’t over yet, and the sun is starting to rise on a long and fruitful career for Rachel on the evidence of this top tune. Prepare to set sail.
