Steepless
Portico Quartet
WE SAY
Outstanding, progressive and critically acclaimed, Steepless marks new territory for East London's musical visionaries Portico Quartet. Featuring a vocal on their music for the first time in the shape of Cornelia's simmering sultry tones, the release has been getting a lot of love on 6Music, with spins from Lauren Laverne, Gideon Coe, Gilles Peterson (live show October 6) and Huey Morgan. The press reception has been other worldly, from Clash and Uncut, to the Observer declaring the release to be "genuinely innovative", noting "there isn’t a band that sounds remotely like them". The Real World released eponymous album is an instant classic, crossing electronic influences from the likes of Burial, Mount Kimbie and James Blake with the band's already established progressive jazz to create a piece of work with huge crossover appeal. It has without doubt been one of the best works of the year. The previously Mercury nominated four-piece consistently sell out shows; following recent performances in Amsterdam, Berlin, Munich, Paris and February's 1200 cap show at Bethnal Green's York Hall, they are set to play Camden Roundhouse in an attempt to quench their ever growing fanbase's appetite to see this fantastic group of musicians live, an experience unparalleled.
