Next on our Ones To Watch 2023 is the exciting Manchester dance duo piri & tommy. Since bursting onto the scene in 2021 after meeting over DM earlier that year and bubbling up in a student house to create music, it’s been a rapid rise for Sophie “piri” McBurnie and Tommy Villiers (also in RotD-featured Porij). Their early track Soft Spot blew up on TikTok, and led to them signing with Polydor. Since then, their infectious brand of drum ‘n’ bass-tinged pop has helped them amass over 211m global TikTok views and co-signs from Charli XCX and PinkPantheress. Along the way, they have drawn acclaim from numerous tastemakers, including the Guardian, Spotify, Apple Music, Radio 1, Sunday Times, NME, Dork and Clash, to name just a few. They’ve recently dropped their froge.mp3 debut project, which contains this gem and the Radio 1 C-listed track on & on, and have been tipped on Vevo’s 2023 DSCVR Artists To Watch and Student Radio Class of 2023. The Manchester duo made their festival debuts at Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds, Latitude, Boomtown and more this summer and are currently on a sold-out UK/EU tour. We love their upbeat and contagious sound, and like their devoted fan following, we believe that 2023 will be even more massive for this talented duo in the UK and the world.
